Please provide a brief narrative explaining what the grant was used for and its outcomes.

The Salina Library used our Solar Eclipse Grant money to purchase supplies for programming on the day of the April 8th eclipse. At 1 PM we held Family Eclipse Science where we talked about how a solar eclipse occurs and about the power of the sun, with demonstrations. We created total solar eclipse shirts and UV bead bracelets. With the latter project, we talked about how the sun’s power is around us even if we can’t see it. 4 children and 3 adults attended.

From 2:00-4:00, our community room was kept open (except when the library closed for totality from 3-3:30) with the NASA live feed playing on our SMART Board. Supplies and instructions were also available for making pinhole viewers and chalk totality art, as well as more UV bead bracelets. 26 people came in to watch the live feed and work on activities.

Specifically, the grant money paid for black t-shirts and fabric paint for the science program, and shoeboxes and black 12 x 12 cardstock for the viewing.
