The Coen Brothers Hold Open Casting Calls for Female Lead in “True Grit”

The Coen Brothers (No Country For Old Men) are holding an open casting call from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the East Memphis Hilton, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd, for the role of spunky young Mattie Ross, the lead character in their upcoming remake of the famous 1969 western, “True Grit.” According to the casting office, the filmmakers are looking for “a 12- 16-year-old Caucasian girl who is tough, strong and tells it like it is. They are open to all looks, so come give it a try. No acting experience is necessary.”

Casting Director Rachel Tenner has already looked at hundreds of girls in Dallas-Fort Worth, Lubbock, Waco, Lexington and Austin, Texas. After Memphis, the casting call moves to Nashville, Greenville, Little Rock, Jackson and Oklahoma.

Jeff Bridges will play Cogburn in the remake of the iconic film, while Matt Damon will star as the Texas Ranger originally played by Glen Campbell and Josh Brolin will be the villainous Tom Chaney (originally Jeff Corey). The movie is set to begin filming in Austin, TX this March.

  1. I have searched the internet for days trying to find the full list of locations they will be holding the casting calls. I only find out about them after they have already been and gone to a location. Is there anyway you could email me the dates and locations where they are taking place Thank You
