Universal Studios shoots footage of the USS Missouri for use in “Battleship”

While the production of Battleship isn’t set to shoot until August, filming has already started a little earlier. Universal Studios used the past couple of days shooting stock shots for the $150-million production Battleship. They have shot footage of the relaunched USS Missouri cruising around Pearl Harbor. The USS Missouri has so far been dry-docked for almost three months due to renovation.

For those unfamiliar with the history behind the USS Missouri, it is not only a filming location for the future blockbuster Battleship, however it also plays a large role in the US history, because on September 2nd 1945 officials from Japan and the Allied Forces signed surrender documents that helped end the war.

Returning to the shooting of Battleship, sources close to the crew have said that “a film crew will be on the Missouri as well as on Navitek 1 which will be trailing the historic battleship…” and that apparently the shots which are of most interest to Universal Studios are shots showing how the ship is being towed, as well as some shots on the ship showing some real movement of the ship.

We will of course keep you posted as more footage becomes available and as the beginning of production moves closer.
