As we have mentioned earlier, filming has begun for the new cinematic adaptation of the Warren Ellis graphic novel, Red. The production, which is run by Summit Entertainment production, officially started shooting last week.

The film’s main character is portrayed by Bruce Willis who could be seen last week shooting scenes on the streets of Toronto, where he shot with co-star Mary-Louise Parker. The movie boasts a hollywood filled cast, featuring not only the above mentioned but also: Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Richard Dreyfuss, and Ernest Borgnine, John Malkovich and many others.

Red is the story of Frank Moses (Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his identity compromised and the life of the woman he cares for endangered, Frank reassembles his old team (Freeman, Malkovich and Mirren) in a last ditch effort to survive.

The script for the project is written by John and Erich Hoeber, who also wrote the script for Battleship. Directing will be completed by Robert Schwentke, who also directed The Time Traveler’s Wife, and Flightplan. Producing are Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, who produced Transformers, along with executive producers Jake Myers and Gregory Noveck.

After the production concludes shooting in and around the Toronto metropolitan area, which is expected to take roughly nine weeks, they will move to New Orleans for two weeks, where they will complete filming the movie in late March. The movie is scheduled for an October 22, 2010 release.
