As the July 22, 2011 release date for The First Avenger: Captain America moves closer, there is much speculation about the cast, Cap’s costume, whether or not he’ll be a “song and dance” man and where the movie will be filmed.
Big Shiny Robot has published a post claiming that three of the current candidates to play Captain America are Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) and Jensen Ackles (Supernatural). This story contradicts comments recently made by the film’s director, Joe Johnson, when he stated he was looking for “a complete unknown” but, that doesn’t mean that they didn’t all read for the role.
And, according to the L.A. Times, Marvel has added “a new wrinkle to the classic mythology to explain why a scientifically enhanced super-soldier would venture out in the WWII battlefields in a costume that leans a bit heavy on the old Betsy Ross imagery.”
“The costume is a flag, but the way we’re getting around that is we have Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit. After he’s made into this super-soldier, they decide they can’t send him into combat and risk him getting killed. He’s the only one and they can’t make more. So they say, ‘You’re going to be in this USO show’ and they give him a flag suit. He can’t wait to get out of it.”
Though we can’t confirm who will play Captain America or whether they’ll have to sing and dance as part of that “USO show”, we can confirm where they’ll be shooting and when. As we reported last week, Johnston had said shooting was likely to take place in the U.K. this summer and now we have confirmed that the movie will indeed shoot in London.
An inside source just revealed to OLV that Captain America will be filming at Shepperton Studios in London this July.
Our source wouldn’t confirm any of the casting rumors, but did assure us the movie will be filming in the U.K. this summer as reported.
