As we have reported earlier, Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides will set sails for Hawaii in June. It is expected to “begin filming on Kauai the third week in June with preproduction already begun on the Garden Island…”
According to rumors, most of the cast will be staying at the recently launched luxurious St. Regis Hotel, except for Johnny Depp who will be staying at his private residence while shooting on the island. The remaining crew will be setting up camp at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club, where they set up the film’s production office a while back.
Since both Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner, and Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth, will not appear in the new sequel, a few new faces have been added to the cast, among these is French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey who will play a mermaid named Syrena. Astrid will be joined by British actor Sam Clafin who will be playing a character named Philip, a young missionary who apparently gets drawn into Jack Sparrow’s hunt for the Fountain of Youth.
As we have mentioned earlier, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled for public release on May 20, 2011.
While staying on Hawaii, another project which is set to shoot on the island is Talk Story Productions’ Spy Vs. Stu, which will feature Pierce Brosnan is in pre-production, however a specific start date has yet to be announced. According to rumors the film will be shot entirely on Oahu.
