As we reported last week, Cowboys and Aliens, the latest from director Jon Favreau, started filming in New Mexico last week. So far, the biggest story surrounding the movie has been the marriage of the film’s star, Harrison Ford to his longtime girlfriend Calista Flockhart, but there is actually so much more to tell!
First of all, they’ve built an 1800s Western city set in Abiquiu, NM, which Olivia Wilde, who also stars in the film, calls, “the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.” Abiquiu is located about 50 miles north of Santa Fe where the actors and crew are staying, and, until now, has been best known as being the home of artist Georgia O’Keeffe.
Over the past couple of weeks they’ve only been shooting night scenes at the Abiquiu set, but those shoots have included some kick-ass fight scenes with Ford! Check out a photo of the set above!
Cowboys & Aliens is about a group of outer-space creatures who land in Arizona in the mid-19th century intent on enslaving the local population until the local cowboys and Apache Indians fight back. Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell and Adam Beach also star.
The shoot is expected to continue at the current set for most of the summer, so if you take a drive by let us know about it at olv@onlocationvacations.com!
[A huge thank you to our friends at Sindication for the photo and scoop!]
