One fan’s dream comes true on the set of ‘Scream 4’

One of our readers, David, caught David Arquette and Courteney Cox leaving the set of Scream 4 in Northville, MI which was a huge thrill for him, and his boyfriend, who is a big fan of the franchise. Here’s David’s story:

I still remember the day in April when my boyfriend, Tyler, learned that they were making “Scream 4” the movie. He yelled “Oh My God” at me with so much intensity I thought he just received word that the President was coming over for dinner. Instead, he received a text message from his friend Marie telling him that another “Scream” was in the works. You see, the Scream trilogy is his all-time favorite. He could, undoubtedly, be Neve Campbell’s biggest fan.

It didn’t take long for me to notice all this enthusiasm. I went home, got online and bought him an original “Scream” Movie Poster to surprise him. I had it framed. He was so proud that he put it up in his bedroom. A couple months later we learned they were going to be shooting in the Ann Arbor area. They were shooting the next chapter in his favorite movie series with his favorite actors just minutes away from our home! This news couldn’t get any better for him.

Flash forward to D-Day when shooting finally began. We were clueless as to where they were shooting or where we should go. We just decided one day we were going drive to Ann Arbor and sniff it out. We were both pretty smart guys and were somewhat familiar with Ann Arbor. However, the trip didn’t happen as we came across your website, On Location Vacations. The website tipped us off that they were shooting in Northville which was even closer to us than Ann Arbor. We were coming from Flint. We decided to go down to Northville after work, we knew it was gonna be late as we worked until 6pm but it was worth a shot.

Tyler took his poster out of the frame to take with him. You never know, maybe he could get the cast to sign it. We were now transporting his valuable cargo. We reached Northville. Just as the website said, they were shooting right in downtown Northville in a house just North of Main and 3 blocks West of Center. We rolled up on the big trucks crammed full or props, lights, cables and cameras. People were walking around with importance. It was as if our little house from Kansas had crashed right into Hollywood. Tyler’s jaw hit the floor of my little Chevy Malibu. He had never seen anything like this before. He became visibly nervous and excited all at the same time.

It was after we parked the car that his nerves got the best of him. He jumped out the car and he slammed his precious poster right in the door of the car. It now had battle wounds with some small rips and creases in it. He stopped dead in his tracks and stared at me with overwhelming sadness. It was as if his childhood puppy had just been hit by a car. It was all he had and it meant so much to him. I told him we just had to go with it. We walked down the road and we gathered with a group of people that weren’t even aware of what was going on.

After about 20-minutes I spotted David Arquette coming out of the house. We were a block away. They had us fans quarantined. I recognized the Dewey mustache. I quickly turned to Tyler and said, “There’s David!” Not even one minute after David walked out Courteney followed wearing a light pink dress, it almost looked like a night-gown of some sort from where we were standing. They both were on their cell phones. They both got into a light tan GMC Yukon, and Tyler pointed out that it was driving towards us. David was in the front passenger seat and had the window down. They got to the barricade about 20 feet from where we were standing and Tyler looked at me with an expression that said, “What do I do!?” We just reacted, I said, “Open your sharpie and go.” He walked up to the car and asked David to sign his poster. David was more than happy to do it. He took the poster into the car, put it on his lap and signed it. Without Tyler even asking, David then took the poster and passed it into the backseat for Courteney to sign. She did. He said “Hi” to Courteney while she signed it and she said “Hi” back to him. Tyler thanked them both and they drove off. Tyler turned to me holding his poster. He was in shock. His heart was still racing.

Tyler became the instant crowd celebrity. No one else had the courage to go up to the vehicle, people asked him, “Who signed it?” “Where did you get that poster?” “Did you see Courtney?” “What did they say?” “Where are you from?” One gentlemen from Dearborn asked me to send him the picture I took of David signing Tyler’s poster to his phone as he wanted to capture the moment he witnessed. Everything happened so quickly, and it all happened within a span of less than a half hour.

The car ride home was filled with excited phone calls to friends and family. The poster went back in it’s frame, and moved to more prime real estate. It’s now being displayed on a wall in his family room. Who knows, it may be making a trip back out of the frame in the hopes that he will cross paths with Neve for her to sign it. We’re hoping your website will tip us off to make another memory, because without it that poster would still be hanging lifeless in his bedroom. It would be hanging there on the wall without this amazing story to tell. Thank you.

Thanks to David for sharing his story! If you have a Scream 4 set experience to share, let us know about it at olv@onlcoationvacations.com!

  1. That really struck a chord with me! I had a similar experience when scream 3 was shooting with my ex boyfriend, too, but never got as far as a cast member signing! I’m so stoked for David and Tyler!

  2. Unfortunately we struck out with Neve last night. She appeared to be in a hurry and there were a lot of fans out last night. She did give Tyler a smile and a wave from her SUV. Just being there and watching all of it unfold and seeing scenes being shot was good enough for both of us. There’s still time…

  3. Right after Scream 3 I became sad of the rumors that the Scream trilogy was a rap. I have also been a huge Scream Fan since I was an early teens growing up. After hearing the bad news I wrote Dimension films a letter regarding my wish for a Scream 4 I even told them how I thought it should be. I received a letter back stating they were no future plans of a scream 4. I was so excited to even receive that from them. Over the years I have bought many scream memorabilia props, I display them proudly. Now that scream 4 is in post production I am very interested to see how it will be brought together.
I am glad to see they are other Scream Fans out there, back in March I heard they were going to be filming in Michigan and have always told myself I would travel to see the fourth installment in production if they ever would be. However living in North Carolina this summer made things a little hard to just get up and leave for a week to go to Michigan. I wish I could of made that possible, maybe next time… I consider Robert and Taylor very lucky. Thanks for the article guys.
