Written by Chris Sparling and directed by Rodrigo Cortés, the movie “Buried” stars Ryan Reynolds as Paul Conroy, a U.S. truck driver in Iraq, who finds himself trapped inside a coffin with only a cell phone and a lighter. Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.

When Reynolds was first approached about the project, he was very wary about the idea of being in a coffin for the entire production. (Reynolds is 6’2”, the coffin was about 7 feet long.)  It took a 15-page letter from Spanish director Cortés, explaining how he would keep the momentum, to have him sign on.

When asked how he spent his nights after filming his scenes, the movie was shot for less than $2 million over 17 days in Barcelona, Spain,  Reynolds said, “I never slept, and it was a real problem.” He added,  “I was just so wound up, and I was totally alone out there. Very few crew members spoke English. Coming home at the end of each day was kind of a lonely, anxiety-ridden experience.”

After filming was done, “I’ve never been happier to finish a movie. I will never complain on a film set again”, he said.

Screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the movie is already getting positive reviews. “Buried” is set for a limited release on September 24th and a nationwide release on October 8th.
