Tonight, some lucky students in Weirton, West Virginia will get a shot to be an extra in Super 8, J.J. Abrams’ next super-secretive film project.
After searching across the country for a town with the right feel for the movie, producers settled on Weirton, where an assembly was held last week for students at Weir Middle School which will also be used one of the movie’s filming locations.
“I searched through anywhere between 150 to 200 towns including Weirton,” Demian Resnick, the film’s location manager, told students. “I took pictures of the Main Street of each town and what the houses look like and the countryside.”
And now that they have settled on their location, they will need more than 2000 people to appear as extras in various scenes. To help cast those roles, the production company is holding an open casting call at tonight’s Weir High football game.
Super 8 begins filming on September 8 in Weirton, WV and Los Angeles.
