The Big Valley, an upcoming feature film based on the TV series, is off to a rough start. The movie was originally slated to begin filming on July 19 just north of  Baton Rouge, LA, but the shoot was pushed back and is now tentatively scheduled to begin on October 25.

Regardless of its production problems, the movie  has a killer cast which includes True Blood’s Stephen Moyer, Jessica Lange, Richard Dreyfuss, Aidan Quinn and many others.

The TV series was a Western that aired on ABC from September 15, 1965 through May 19, 1969 and starred Barbara Stanwyck as the matriarch of a ranching family in California.

For the film, the Greenwood Plantation, a privately-owned Bed & Breakfast located at 6838 Highland Road St. Francisville, LA, will be used for most of the interior shots of the family’s home and the production crew has already begun renovating the property for the shoot. You can see several before and after pictures of the set here.

The Rosedown Historic Plantation, 12501 La. Hwy. 10 in West Feliciana Parish, will be used for most of the exterior shots of the family’s ranch. The Rosedown is one of the most intact examples of a domestic plantation complex in the South. It is also an historical landmark which is open for tours daily. You can see photos of this property here.

  1. Stella cast I agree but the coup for this film has to be the casting of Lee Majors, the original and unforgettable Heath, playing Tom Barkley. Looking forward to this film enormously. I so want it to work and so far I can’t fault the cast of the beautiful locations and attention to detail.

  2. I thought the movie has already started filming. Just want to see Travis Fimmel as Heath in this movie. Liked it on tv so I am hoping the movie is just as good.

Would have been extra nice if it were shot in California the original location.
