We were actually going to post an article about Mel Gibson landing a role in “The Hangover 2”, a role was supposed to help lighten the mood surrounding him. However, now it seems as if Gibson has been canned before he even got started.

While the internet is buzzing with rumors that Mel Gibson was fired from the role, the director of the movie denied this saying “Someone was doing me a favor to come in for a two-minute cameo, and we changed it. It wasn’t like we fired somebody. [Gibson] was just doing a favor from the beginning”

Other rumors have surfaced that the true reason behind Gibson being dropped was that due to complaints from members of the cast and crew. Recently Zach Galifianakis objected openly to Gibson scoring a snippet of screen time as a Bangkok tattoo artist. Galifianakis earlier complained in an interview that he hated not having a say in casting matters, adding “I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to [listen]…” Whether this was one of the reasons behind Mel being dropped we can only speculate.

The part has now gone to Liam Neeson instead. Neeson, who is a personal friend of  Bradley Cooper, and recently  recently co-starred with him in “The A-Team”, has already confirmed that he will join the cast of the blockbuster.

Filming is taking place on the Warner Bros lot, where a Bangkok set has been built, before the production moves to Thailand for the final shots.

The movie is expected to hit theaters in May 2011.

  1. My wife and I both love Zach and respect his opinions. Hope the movie is an even bigger success than the original. Can’t wait for Due Date out on Friday. We saw Zach and Robert Downey during its filming in Santa Fe.
