Romania’s most famous mountain road has been closed for “Ghost Ride”, the sequel to “Ghost Rider” which stars Oscar winner Nicolas Cage. Filming began Monday on the Transfagarasan highway, which is more than 2,000 meters (6,560 feet) tall at its highest point. According to the national news agency Agerpres, “the winding highway will be used for motorcycle stunt scenes in the movie, with an actor doubling for Cage”. The filming is expected to last all week.
The Transfagarasan seems to be a perfect location for these kinds of stunts, as it is normally closed during the winter months when it is too dangerous for travel.
While lots of the storyline is still under wraps, so far it has been confirmed that Johnny Blaze will be gallivanting through Europe and going up against his employer, Satan, who tries to possess the body of a child. Apparently Cage is to play two roles at the same time, both as Johnny Blaze and as the demon that possesses his body.
The second installment will ride into theaters in 2012.
