On Friday night, Joseph Gordon-Levitt brought his hitRECecord project to Columbia University as part of the HITRECORD.ORG presents Joseph Gordon-Levitt RE:Acting & RECording college tour. The event was meant to introduce potential collaborators to the project, examine the general state of mass media today and “the broader questions that have faced artists since forever.”
hitRECord.org is a collaborative community of artists, musicians, writers, and filmmakers, who make short films together. Anyone can contribute to anyone else’s project, creating a true sense of community and some pretty cool short films.
Last month, JGL was forced to cancel a previously scheduled hitRECord event in NYC after his brother Dan suddenly passed away. On hitRECord.org he thanked everyone for their well wishes adding, ” I’m still feeling pretty low these days, but I’m looking forward to taking a few ginger steps back to work. I know that’s what he’d want.”
During Friday night’s event, the audience was encouraged to take pictures or record the presentation in any way they wanted with JGL doing the same.
He talked briefly about being a student at Columbia when he was twenty one but dropped out because he got an editing board and wanted to use it all the time, there was no longer much time for school. He also talked about losing his brother, Dan, six weeks ago and how hard that’s been for him, but since they started hitRECecord together, he wanted to do this for Dan and and for himself as it helps him deal with his own sadness.
During Friday’s session, a member of the audience asked him for advice when preparing for an audition and he shared a few of his own experiences. He said he’s been auditioning since he was six, sometimes going to auditions every day. He also said he tends to dress for the part (without going overboard) he’s reading for because it’s easier for the producers to” see you as that character if you look like that character”. He also said to be “zen with the process” and realize you’re not in control of anything and most of the time they can tell as soon as you walk in whether you’re right for the part or not.
Another audience member asked if they could participate in HitRecord.org, even if they weren’t artistic. He said they get so many contributions to the site there isn’t enough time to go through them all, and asked people to start a favorites list to help narrow down the submissions.
Throughout the lecture, Joseph showed films from the site like “Morgan Morgan’s Date with Destiny” and some “works in progress” to explain how they all get pieced together by various members of hitRECord and their contributions. He also said they are in the process of putting out a hitRECecord book/DVD which should be out by the holidays.
It sounds like it was a cool event and we’re glad to hear JGL is moving forward after tragically losing his brother.

[…] told students at Columbia during a college tour for his project, hitRECecord, that his decision to drop out came after he got a new editing board and found himself so involved […]
I have heard about the hitRECecord project before and I can say that in my opinion, it is very cool, because it allows artists, musicians, writers, and many others to develop. And from my own experience, I know that this is a very cool opportunity, especially for writers, to progress and improve their writing skills, because many of them have serious problems with this. That is why, in such cases, people often turn for help to the service https://papersowl.com/top-writers, which employs top writers who quickly and efficiently help with any writing. It is very convenient, so it is becoming increasingly popular.
Interesting news, thanks for sharing. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a fairly well-known and experienced actor, so I think this lecture on his project was worth attending. By the way, short films are a separate art form that requires a team of several people to shoot. For example, there are many videos on YouTube in which the authors talk about the basics of shooting short films, I managed to find a couple of hundred of these videos there, and I noticed that most often they had about 17 thousand views! I am sure this is because their authors used the services of https://soclikes.com/ in order to wind up views for YouTube.
Great site!
