Sundance 2011: Demi Moore, Emma Roberts, and Vera Farmiga star in competing films

The dramatic and documentary in-competition line-up for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, which will run from Jan. 20 to 30, 2011 in Park City, Utah, was announced today.

This year there will be no Opening Night film, instead one narrative and documentary film from the U.S. and World competitions will each screen on the first night.

Here are the highlights from the 16 films in the U.S. dramatic competition, to see the full list of films in-competition, check out the Sundance Film Festival website.

Higher Ground

The directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actress Vera Farmiga, which was filmed in Kingston, NY, is about a mother who joins a fundamentalist community. Farmiga also stars in the film.

Homework

This filmed-in-New York flick bout a rebellious high schooler, stars Freddie Highmore, Emma Roberts, Rita Wilson, and Blair Underwood. It was written and directed by newcomer Gavin Wiesen.

The Ledge

This thriller about a man who says he has to jump from a ledge by noon, starring Charlie Hunnam, Liv Tyler, Patrick Wilson, and Terrence Howard, was written and directed by screenwriter Matthew Chapman.

The Untitled Sam Levinson Project

The movie (formerly known as The Reasonable Bunch) about two siblings who attend an anarchic family wedding, stars Demi Moore, Kate Bosworth, Ellen Barkin, Ellen Burstyn, and Thomas Haden Church.

Martha Marcy May Marlene

The movie, directed by Sean Durkin, just wrapped filming last month in upstate New York. It is about a damaged woman who struggles to re-assimilate with her family after fleeing an abusive cult. The movie stars Elizabeth Olsen, Brady Corbet, Hugh Dancy, John Hawkes, and Sarah Paulson.

Terri

Terri is a story about a big boy who feels alone in a small town. After his high school’s vice-principal takes Terri under his wing, he comes to learn there are others that feel the same way he does. And when Terri defends the honor of his secret crush, lonely worlds collide. Terri stars Jacob Wysocki, John C. Reilly, Creed Bratton, Olivia Crocicchia, and Bridger Zadina.
