Glenn Close is currently in Ireland to film her new movie “Albert Nobbs”. In it, Close plays a “woman who passes as a man to work and survive in Dublin in 1898”. Earlier the 63 year old actress revealed that the story moved her so much that she spent the previous 15 years trying to make the movie a reality, now she has co-written, as well as produced, the project which is to be directed by Rodrigo Garcia.

During a press conference Close said “It is a real trick to bring off a movie, a period movie, on the budget that we have, but so far so good”. The movie has a relatively small budget of just six million euro, which is also why the producers considered several locations before finally deciding to shoot in Dublin where the story takes place.

As Close puts it “At one point we were thinking of filming in Hungary, Eastern Germany, Montreal in Canada. We’ve been all over the place but I’m really happy that we’re here because this is where it should be.”

In the movie Glenn Close will star alongside Irish actors Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Brendan Gleeson and Maria Doyle Kennedy as well as Pauline Collins, Janet McTeer, Aaron Johnson and Mia Wasikowska.

Filming on Albert Nobbs, which began today, is expected to last seven weeks and will take place in Dublin and Wicklow, however the exact locations are under wraps in an attempt to keep the storyline secret.

The movie is set for a 2011 release.
