Los Angeles has something else to celebrate this week. Cameron Crowe’s next feature, We Bought A Zoo, will be shot almost entirely in Thousand Oaks, CA, giving a boost to the local film industry after a recent decline in big budget pictures being shot in southern California.
The movie, which stars Matt Damon (who has already received not only the film’s script, but also the completed soundtrack) and Scarlett Johansson, is preparing to begin production in Thousand Oaks next month, where crews have been building a zoo on a private ranch for the 50-day shoot.
The film is based on the bestselling memoir of the same name by Benjamin Mee about an Englishman who builds a wildlife preserve to care for more than 200 animals.
We Bought A Zoo is scheduled to shoot at 990 N. Allen St in Pasadena, CA on Jan. 17 as well.

[…] #4 1 Minute Ago Here is an update on the filming location. Thousand oaks is a semi-rural area just northwest of Los Angeles. Boy I would love to be able to see that set. Apparently, someone involved in the production lives here in Tucson and commutes to L.A. for movie work. He came to our zoo (Reid Park Zoo) several months ago to look at the layout for ideas to design the zoo set. (I guess that was easier, since he lives here, than flying to Dartmoor to see the actual zoo, which of course would make more sense). I was soooooooooo looking forward to this movie, the book was awesome, but I just saw a preview that said he bought the zoo AFTER his wife died…..WRONG! Then I saw Matt Damon WITHOUT an English accent>??????!!!! WTF??? Guess I’ll skip it and will reread the book.
