‘The Dark Knight Rises’ location rumors continue, the latest claims Detroit will be the new Gotham City

After our last Dark Knight Rises post, I swore I was never going to speculate about possible filming locations for the movie again, but this one’s too good to resist.

The Detroit News published an article today citing a post on ReelChicago.com that claims Detroit had beat out Chicago as one of the filming locations for the third Batman movie. But they also note that the Michigan Film Office has yet to receive an application from the film’s production company. “Until we have the application in hand, it is speculation,” said Michelle Begnoche, communications advisor for the Film Office.

With the number of big budget films, including Transformers 3, that have been shooting in Detroit recently, it wouldn’t be surprising if they did film a portion of the movie in Detroit, but I remain skeptical.

I dug up the Reel Chicago tidbit mentioning that the movie would be shot in Detroit and noticed that the date on the story is Dec. 19, which is more than a week before The Scene’s interview with Ravi Mehta, SVP of Production at Warner Bros in which it was stated that the movie would be shot in L.A., Louisiana, and “another city”. It seems that if Detroit was a done deal, as Reel Chicago has suggested, wouldn’t that have come up in the interview too?

For now we’ll all just have to keep guessing but hopefully we’ll get some confirmation on where they’ll actually be filmingĀ  soon!
