New projects coming to New England including ‘Ted’ and ‘Moon Rise Kingdom’

According to Beantown.Name, there are few new projects on the horizon for Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The site notes a recent casting call, which can also be found on Facebook at the Boston Actors Info Guide, from South Shore Casting who is “seeking Caucasian boys with acting background 8 to 11 to play Mark Wahlberg as a child and another child for new Feature Film “Ted” shooting in Boston in February. To be considered as one of JPQ’s submissions for audition appointment please send headshot and resume asap to Jodi@southshorecasting.com. In subject line TED KID.”

We had heard that Ted, which will also mark the feature film debut of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and will co-star Mila Kunis, would likely be shot in Boston and the above casting call seems to confirm the rumor. But, we remain skeptical about the February start date. Mark Wahlberg is expected to continue filming Contraband in New Orleans through mid-March with additional shooting in Puerto Rico after that. Considering he is currently the star of both films, it seems unlikely that he will be able to commit to Ted in February.

LDI Casting also recently sent out a casting call for a boy and girl for a Wes Anderson film that will be shooting in Rhode Island this spring. The movie in question is Moon Rise Kingdom which takes place in a New England town in the 1960’s. Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton are all attached to the film which will mark the first horror/thriller flick from Anderson.

In addition to Ted and Moon Rise Kingdom, the website also mentions that the upcoming Kristen Bell movie, Dance of the Mirlitons, will be shooting in Boston this spring. But, so far, we cant’ find any other reference to the film being shot in Boston and have actually heard rumors that it would be filmed primarily in L.A. We’ll definitely be watching this one closely and will let you guys know when we learn more about exactly where the movie will be filming.

Update: We received an update from Boston.Name via Facebook and they told us the latest on Ted is that it will begin filming in May.

Update #2: We heard Boston Casting is holding an open casting call for Boys 8-11 years old for Ted on Saturday, January 22nd, 10am – 3pm at Quixote Studios Boston, 184 Everett St., Allston, MA 02134.

  1. boston needs to take photo’s of seth macfarlane and cast during filming of Ted and put them up on the internet daily. It’s a brilliant marketing for both boston and the film and it’s stars. That’s what happened with friends with benefits. We all got to watch as the film was being made and will now go to see it whether it’s any good or not and it keeps Boston top of mind for tourism again.
