‘Three Stooges’ begins filming in Atlanta in April

In a recent interview with Projo.com, Peter Farrelly confirmed that production is ready to begin in April in Atlanta for The Three Stooges.

Peter, along with his brother Bobby, will direct the film, but its still uncertain who will star. “We’re casting, but nobody is in right now,” Farrelly said. “Benicio [Del Toro] is the front runner for Moe, but we’ve not made a deal with him yet,” he added. At one point Sean Penn and Jim Carrey were both attached, but have since both dropped out.

Farrelly said they’re even considering signing unknowns to play the Stooges. “Our feeling is that it just can’t be your take on Moe. It’s gotta be Moe. Someone could nail Curly’s mannerisms, but if you’re 130 pounds it probably wouldn’t work.”

Farrelly also told the paper that the film will shoot in Georgia because of that state’s generous tax credits. “They give 25 percent of the budget back to the studio, so if a movie is budgeted for $50 million, they give back 25 percent and it winds up costing $37 million,” he explained.

This will be the second film the Farrelly Brothers have shot in Atlanta in the past year. Their upcoming comedy, Hall Pass starring Owen Wilson, was also shot in ATL last spring.

The Three Stooges production offices will be set up on Means  St in Atlanta during the shoot.

  1. Can Mel Gibson have the chance to co-produced and starred in as Shemp Howard, he’s hilarious when yelling at his two faced bitch wife and yes its true, WHERE ALL YOU MEL GIBSON!!!

  2. I wonder if the film movie will have the pie throwing at the lady soprano singing, Niagra Falls, or the haunted house. Ithink you should add Shrimp the larger stiffer sap. Moe was a second scared of slapping Shrimp, the fickle Uncle Joe can wind up the picture comedy.

  3. I only hope that the cinematography is that of the same quality that Moe Howard insisted upon. From costumes to set design and lighting, the Stooges shorts were in fact mini movies. Moe was extremely pernikity about the finished product. They introduced vaudvilian comedy and slap stick to future generations. Watching the Stooges harkens back to a simpeler less comlicated time. I hope this movie is of that ilk and leaves the drama at the curb of the set

  4. We are constantly re-making old movies and television shows. But when it comes to an icon such as the Stooges…let`s leave well enough alone. There is only one group of people who are considered the 3 Stooges, unfortunately, those men are no longer with us. I say, scrap the movie before it is made.

  5. I knew a guy named Paul D Tressel from Farmingdale or Farmington, Mi. He entertained us all during basic training for the Army in 1972. He’d be perfect by now as curley Joe. Hope you look for him
