Sundance Film Festival: Old favorites, new faces, and Oprah all cause a stir on Main St.

This year we’re excited to welcome a new contributor, Scott ‘Skippy’ Jessop, who is without a doubt the leading expert when it comes to meeting celebrities at the Sundance Film Festival (there’s even been a documentary made about his adventures at Sundance). Each year Skippy can be seen on Main Street in Park City, Utah posing with celebs and getting his “celebrity fix”.

Skippy will be sending us updates throughout this year’s festival with a few of his latest photos and some tips for all of our readers who want to have their own celebrity sighting during Sundance. Here’s his first report:

For anyone who has never been to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah here is a brief synopsis: It’s the Superbowl of Indie film making. Getting in is TOUGH. Without looking at exact numbers Sundance shows 300-ish films out of the 6000-ish submitted. My main focus is the celebs.

This year has been OK so far, not great, not terrible. Many return faces (Morgan Spurlock, Zooey Deschanel, James Franco) and some cool fresh faces (Freddy Highmore, Danny McBride, Tobey Maguire). The biggest name so far (Oprah) has been the hardest to see. She’s here scooping up films for her very OWN network.

My personal highlights have been meeting legends like Norman Lear and Harry Belefonte (young stars may return but how often will we get to see these legends again in Utah?), meeting hotties (Maria Menunos, Kristen Kreuk, Lake Bell) and NOT seeing the useless Hollywood barnacles of humanity from The Jersey Shore or The Hills (they’ve either stayed away or are still sleeping when I’m out meeting).

My advice to novices:

Make friends with security.

Watch some TV and Movies before you come so you’re not asking me “Who’s that?” every 5 seconds.

Dress warm.

Happy Sundance everyone!

Stay tuned for more celeb updates from Skippy and check out his photos of James Franco, Creed Bratton, and Blair Underwood!
