With Scream 4 returning to Northville, MI next week and Family Weekend currently shooting in Harrison Twp, filming in Michigan is already off to a good start in 2011, and it looks like things are only going to get better.
This week, there is news of two new projects that may be shot in the state this summer.
Last week, 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather announced that they’re partnering up for an action movie that will shoot in Grand Rapids in August.
The movie, entitled “Tomorrow Today” was written by 50 Cent who will also direct the project. Mayweather, a Grand Rapids native, is a longtime friend of 50, who has become a part-time GR resident himself.
The rapper/actor has already filmed “Caught in the Crossfire,” “Gun,” “Things Fall Apart”, and “Setup” in Grand Rapids.
He even plans to premiere “Things Fall Apart” in G.R. in March, while in town shooting his next project, “Freelancers”.
There is also speculation that Johnny Depp’s next project, “Oz: The Great and Powerful”, will be shot in Michigan later this year. A $105 million production has won approval for a $40 million tax credit to shoot at a huge new studio in Pontiac, MI, and rumor has it the movie is “Oz”.
According to the Citizen-Times, “Many signs hint that the movie is “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” a Disney prequel to the classic “Wizard of Oz” with Michigan native Sam Raimi directing and Johnny Depp negotiating for the lead role.”
Stay tuned for more on these projects and others filming in Michigan this year!
Hi there.
My friend and I were just wondering if we could be extras for the movie “Oz”. Email me at anytime so we can know where to sign up 🙂
Thanks soo much! 🙂
I would like to know the dates of filming and the possibility of becoming an extra or on the set during filming.
