In Photos: Donnie Wahlberg on the set of ‘Blue Bloods’

Yesterday we took a short jaunt to New York City where we were lucky enough to land on the set of Blue Bloods. Though we hadn’t planned on a formal set visit, we couldn’t resist passing by the Waldorf Astoria, where Blue Bloods was scheduled to shoot, just to see if we could get a glimpse of the set or find out who was shooting.

We passed by the Park Ave entrance of the hotel and didn’t see any sign of filming but sure enough, as we turned onto 49th St, we saw a crowd of extras and several New York City police cars and quickly realized they were shooting exteriors right on 49th St!

Since we hadn’t planned to stop by the set and weren’t sure who was there or what they were filming, I approached one of the PAs and asked if Donnie Wahlberg would be filming. She confirmed he was on his way and told us where to wait if we wanted to try to talk to him as he arrived.

Donnie did pull up about ten minutes later but he was dropped off on the opposite side of the street so we missed our chance to talk to him. (I would have loved to tell him about all of his amazing fans that we’ve met over the past few months and how many of them were able to met him because of OLV!)

The PA told us that we could wait on the set and watch him shoot since we missed out on being able to talk to him. She showed us to a spot where we were still on set but out of the scene and out of the actors’ line of sight. She was so sweet and even told us we could take pictures (as long as we didn’t use the flash).

We watched Donnie film several takes of a scene in which he drives up to a crime scene (though he actually only drives about 3 feet!), gets out of the car, walks through a crowd where it appears he interviews someone before getting back into the car. We had a great view of him getting in and out of the car, we even got to see him rehearse a few times too!

We are often asked if we think it would be possible to meet Donnie on the set of Blue Bloods and after our experience we can definitely say yes. I’m sure if we had stayed until they were done shooting we would have been able to talk to him. The PA on set was so kind and accommodating (though we saw others who weren’t so helpful) and it seemed like Donnie would have been very approachable if he weren’t in the middle of filming a scene.

Check out a few of our photos below (again we couldn’t use a flash so they aren’t the best but they give some idea of what the scene was like) and be sure to let us know if you’ve been able to meet Donnie on set and what kind of experience you had!
