‘The Hobbit’ gets new production date, now to start filming March 21st

We previously reported that shooting for “The Hobbit” had been postponed due to Peter Jackson undergoing surgery to treat a perforated ulcer. Jackson, who was released from the hospital on February 3, states that “despite some delays we are fully back on track and very excited to get started.”

Earlier today 3Foot7 Ltd released a statement saying that “The Hobbit” will begin shooting on Monday, March 21, so almost a month later than the previously aimed February start date.

“This date has been chosen following practical considerations of the filming schedule requirements, actor availability and the NZ seasons,” the announcement says.  The shooting is expected to take place at Stone Street Studios in Miramar and on location around New Zealand.

As reported earlier “The Hobbit” will be split into two films which are going to be shot back to back. The first part is projected for December 2012 release, while “The Hobbit 2″ is planned to come out in December 2013.

Hopefully this will be the last delay of the movie, the production has already been plagued with enough setbacks.
