Details for Wednesday’s big ‘Contagion’ scene at Candlestick Park emerge

As we’ve been reporting all week, Contagion is going to wrap up its one week shoot in San Francisco with a huge scene, involving more than 1000 extras, at Candlestick Park on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the producers of the movie,  about an international pandemic and the scientists trying to stop it, are paying the city more than $60,000 to reserve the  San Francisco 49ers’ stadium.  The rate was $10,000 a day, for six days, with filming scheduled to finish on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s shoot will also mark the final day of filming on the movie which has included scenes filmed in Hong Kong, Chicago, Atlanta, and Geneva over the past 5 months.

During Wednesday’s big finale, a helicopter will land on the field among tents, military vehicles and actors. “It’s like a large vaccination center,” said Jonathan Shedd, the local production manager for Contagion.

Sounds like the perfect way to end a very big, very busy movie shoot!
