Examiner.com recently published an interview with Dan Comaianni, owner of The Next Chapter Bookstore & Bistro in Northville, MI, one of the locations used in Scream 4 last summer.
Dan described how his business came to be involved in the film, explaining, “My wife Kathy received a phone call at the bookstore from a man identifying himself only as a location manager wanting to visit the bookstore to gather information for a possible future project. He did not disclose what the project was. Or who he was actually working for. He stated that he represented Next films and project X.”
Most interestingly, Dan explained what the atmosphere was like in the store on the day of filming. He mentions that David Arquette, who was in a severe car accident today but is OK, had some trouble with his lines.
Inside fact…. the sheriff Dewey entrance scene had to have 8 takes. Because [of] David Arquette. Sheriff Dewey kept blowing his line!
Believe it or not. It was because he mispronounced one word! The script called for the sheriff to enter bookstore and announce that he is conducting a police investigation and that the map quadrants led him to the bookstore where a crime may have been committed… The word in the script was coordinates.
David could not get that word out… He would get to that word and still say quadrants Wes had to yell cut! They had to back the police car up and reset all the lighting, makeup for all the actors, David Arquette had to change his sheriff outfit 4 times because he was sweating profusely.
Knowing what we know now about what David was going through at the time, its not surprising he was a bit flustered. Luckily, everything worked out and we can now look forward to seeing the finished product in theaters on April 15!
