The HBO made-for-TV movie “Game Change” will be shooting in Maryland this spring according to Gov. Martin O’Malley. The movie, which is based on the best-selling account of the 2008 presidential campaign, will follow the campaign of Sen. John McCain from his selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as running mate through the November general election.

According to Len Amato, the president of HBO films, “Location scouting will probably start next week, with the production taking anywhere from one to two months in and around Baltimore“. The film will be directed by Jay Roach and written by Danny Strong, and is expected to provide jobs for 160 production crew members and 1,800 local actors and extras.

Julianne Moore will play Palin, according to a casting announcement  made this week that was much discussed in the media. Amato said the role of McCain had not yet been cast, but that was in the works and would be announced soon.

It won’t be the first time that HBO heads to the Baltimore area. In the past HBO has filmed several projects in Maryland including the mini-series “The Corner” and the series “The Wire,” as well as several other movies.

When we know more about the specific filming dates and locations we will let you know!
