In the past we have reported that many states are experiencing a decline in on location shoots, the main reason for this being that they are cutting their tax incentives and budgets.
Now however it seems as if more film producers are choosing Los Angeles for filming once again. An incentive for shooting in California could be the fact that the state will raise the Entertainment Production Cap from 2.5 million to five million U.S. dollars, enabling at least 535 smaller production companies to save more than 3,000 dollars a year in taxes.
According to Film L.A. “On location film production across all genres increased by five percent in and around the city of Los Angeles during the first quarter of 2011.” This increase marked the fifth consecutive quarter of growth for on location filming.
The agency attributed the increase to the state Television and Film Tax Credit, an ordinance designed to stem runaway on location filming. The ordinance fuels about 15 percent of feature film activity in the area, according to data released by the agency.
