‘Big Sur’ begins filming in San Francisco

A few days ago we received a tip that something with “retro cars” was filming on Olympia Way in San Francisco and knowing that Hemingway and Gellhorn is currently filming around the city, we reported the location as H & G. Come to find out, it was actually the first location for Big Sur, which also began filming in San Fran this week too.

The movie, which is being directed by Michael Polish, is an adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s book, Big Sur. Jean-Marc Barr stars as Kerouac, Josh Lucas as Neal Cassidy, and Kate Bosworth as Billie, the love interest of both men. Big Sur focuses on Kerouac’s move from New York to Northern California.

Polish also wrote the film which will  feature appearances by Anthony Edwards, Rahda Mitchell, Balthazar Getty, Patrick Fischler, Stana Katic, John Robinson and Henry Thomas.

This is the second Kerouac adaptation to be shot in San Francisco in less than a year, several scenes for the upcoming big screen version of On The Road were also filmed in the city last fall.
