‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ will begin filming in Michigan July 25, extras casting underway

According to Production Weekly, Oz: The Great And Powerful, Disney’s prequel to The Wizard of Oz which stars James Franco and Mila Kunis and is being directed by Sam Raimi, begins filming in Michigan around July 25.

Pre-production has already begun with set construction underway at Raleigh Michigan Studios in Pontiac, MI and an open casting call for extras is expected to take place early next month.

They have already started casting for some specific background roles, including people 18 or older who are either 4-feet-10-inches and shorter or 6-feet-8-inches and taller. You can find the details for those casting calls at MichiganActing.com.

Though Michigan has significantly reduced its film incentive program, the Michigan Film Office has explained that Oz, “was approved for the film incentives in late 2010, prior to the new parameters that have been put in place under the governor’s 2012 budget proposal.”

In other Oz news, Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to join the cast as the movie’s villainess, Evanora, a powerful, evil witch who intends to rule the land.

Be on the lookout for Oz this summer and stay tuned for more information about upcoming casting calls for the film!

  2. Love the entire cast of OZ. They’re all great actors and so beautiful…I don’t know who did the casting….but …it’s a great job. can’t wait to see the film. First film I’ve seen in about 10 years where the casting was so perfect. It’s so nice to look at beautiful people for a change. I see uglies all the time. most actors today are classless and look like fake dogs. This entire cast is exquisite!
