Is Ohio The New Michigan?
While Michigan and other film-friendly states are lessening the amount of tax credits available to filmmakers, Ohio is taking advantage of the situation by welcoming some of the projects that likely would have filmed in those states with open arms.
Ohio has already negotiated for two high profile films to be shot in the state this summer, Fun Size and The Avengers (both of which were originally set to be shot in Michigan), and now they have added four more projects to that list.
Over the Wall, starring Kim Basinger, will begin filming in Darke, Mercer and Stark counties in late summer or early fall. The film is set in the world of professional stock-car racing.
Liberal Arts, which stars Josh Radnor and Allison Janney, will be shot in Gambier and Columbus.
Old Fashioned, about the courtship of an antique shop owner and a free-spirited young woman, will film in Tuscarawas County. There will be an open casting call held on June 26-27 at Kent State University for extras.
Seven Below Zero, starring Val Kilmer, will e shoot in Goshen and Cincinnati this summer. The movie is about six travelers trapped in a home where a murder occurred 100 years ago.
