Sometimes its hard to deny there’s something in the air.
Just days ago I was talking with someone about CBS’ long-running series of Jesse Stone films, starring Tom Selleck, and we were not only pondering where they the movies were filmed, but whether or not they would return, and then this morning I receive this tip in an email from one of our readers, Erin:
Tom Selleck is in Halifax filming another movie…they were filming on Argyle Street last week and are expected to be in town for a while.
Well there you have it! Tom Selleck is in deed reprising his role as Jesse Stone for an 8th film, entitled Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt. Production began on May 20 with Halifax filling in for the fictional Paradise, MA.
This is the 8th consecutive summer Tom has spent in Hailfax shooting the made-for-TV movies. And, of course, he will return to New York City later this summer to begin filming the second season of Blue Bloods.
If you spot Tom filming around town, let us know about it at olv@onlocationvacations.com!
This isn’t the only set of TV movies Selleck filmed in Halifax. He also filmed “reversible errors” in 2004. Still have a few props from that one.
I do hope there will be another Jesse Stone movie. He is an excellent actor and plays the role of Jesse Stone so well. I have been a fan of his since he was on Magnum PI.
big fan here…classy well spoken guy, great actor, was just watching the clip from years ago of him with Rosie Donnell, really amazing how well he handled himself during that adverse situation. Still looks great too!!!!
My husband and I just enjoy the Jesse Stone movies so much, we can’t wait until his 8Th movie is released. We only hope the series keep continuing on.
My wife and I stumbled into “Jesse Stone: Stone Cold” on TV one evening and we both really enjoyed it. That prompted a search by me to see if that movie was ever released on DVD. Finding not only that movie but five more, a Christmas purchase of the set was launched by me for my wife in December 2011. All of these movies were so well done and so well acted by Tom Selleck and co-stars, they were a sincere pleasure to watch. Later on, as “Jesse Stone: No Remorse” was released (DVD #7) it was immediately added to our set. It turned out to be every bit as exciting and suspensful as the others. Now we wait for the eighth DVD release which I understand is scheduled for later this year (2012), and will most likely be entitled “Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt”.
If Mr. Selleck and others responsible for these wonderfully entertaining movies agrees to continue the series with several more Jesse Stone films, my wife and I stand eagerly ready to buy them and continue to enjoy them for years to come.
Does anyone know when the 8th movie is going to be out?
The Jesse Stone character is great. So glad Tom is making another one. Cannot wait to see it.

Tom is a great guy and I love the dog on the show. I hope he keeps making these films. They are so much better than what comes out of Hollywood.
I just finished watching the whole series and I am really impressed. They were all great! Tom is perfect for this role and I hope they make many more.
I really hope he makes it back to Halifax for a 9th season of filming. Love all the movies and would hate to see them end.

In the opening scene of Thin Ice there is a shot of a “town” comprised largely of Red painted bldgs, is that picture available anywhere?

Simply can’t get enough of the Jesse Stone series, having seen all eight now over in the UK. I dearly hope Tom and cast continue for many years!!! Superb role that he plays like no one else I could Imagine. Just perfectly tailored to such a tallented and time served actor of huge calibre. A classic series in the making, which has and will continue to attract a huge and loyal fan base for very many years to come. If you love the mix of scenery, atmosphere, brilliant musical scores from Jeff Beal, and real acting without the usual special effects brigade. Then look no further!! I’d move there tomorrow if only I could 🙂
Great show. Watching the marathon on Hallmark today. He gives me hope that surly but honest older guys can still get the girl! I agree with his high level of levelheadedness displayed on the set up he fell into on Rosie. His calm cool and honest demeanor came through like I’ve never seen before from an actor. On a technical note, he handles his weapon VERY well and his real life acumen with firearms pays off in his acting rolls. The Baldwin and Hasty, however, were given a suppressed revolver in one episode. Amateur mistake. Please run all the firearms issues through Mr. Selleck before filming! Please make more!!
I started watching these on Hallmark, and I really enjoyed them. He plays the character of Jesse so well. I had to borrow the last ones from the library. I certainly hope they make a new one soon. I heard CBS won’t play them, so they are looking for another station or cable network.
I again watched the Jesse Stone movies over this past week-end. I started early on Sunday and once again had to continue most of the day and evening. Tom Selleck is so great! The story line keeps you in suspense. I so hope another movie will be on-coming. I also was interested in learning that series have been filmed in Halifax Nova Scotia ( an area I’m very familiar with). Looking forward to watching the series again.
I love this series and have bought them all. Selleck delievers and the character of Jesse Stone fits him to a tee! I hope someone picks up this series….SOON!
While some scenes are filmed in Halifax, it is actually the birthplace of the Bluenose LUNENBURG NOVA SCOTIA which doubles as Paradise, Mass. and other scenes are filmed in nearby Blue Rocks. The distinctive red harbour front buildings are a dead give away. Tom Selleck is a big fan of the South Shore.
While many scenes are filmed in the Halifax area, it is the beautiful heritage town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia which doubles as Paradise Mass. with other scenes filmed in nearby Blue Rocks. Tom Selleck loves the South Shore.
Paradise, MA in NOT a fictional town. Only the name is fictional. It is really Marblehead, MA. Anyone who has read Robert Parker from the Spencer series and then into Jesse Stone knows that Parker was from the north shore of Boston. For Bostonians part of the draw of his books was the reality of the scenes and buildings. The Spencer TV series was filmed in Boston, often in the neighborhood where we lived. The Jesse Stone books written by Parker were most definitely set in Marblehead with the Neck, Race Week, Swampscott the next town over……. While Tom Selleck is perfect as Jesse Stone, for those of us who read the books, and in my case live in Marblehead, watching the movies and knowing that they were so obviously not filmed in New England let alone Marblehead is very hard.
Please don’t discontinue the Jesse Stone series….. I have watched most, 4 or 5 times. I do understand there are a couple I haven’t seen. Can’t wait to see them. Need more…..Tom Selleck is addictive in more ways than one. I have watched him for years!!!!!!!
The Jesse Stone saga is probably the most addictive series ever. I have watched them all more than once. Tom Selleck plays a great character and does it so well.
It’s been 2 years since CBS cancelled production of any new Jesse Stone episodes. It is a shame the series has not continued. The Jesse Stone series was one of the finest productions ever produced by network TV. I can not help but believe Tom Selleck produced a standard that only cable and the likes of Netflix have tried to match. This was a series well done and I for one, enjoyed and appreciate.
Jesse Stone and Tom Selleck and the dog are the greatest!
Please make more Jesse stone movies!!!!
Thank you!!!
