Recently Fandango conducted a survey asking their readers which summer 2011 movie location-destinations they would most want to visit across America.
Its no surprise that the winner was Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Halona Cove in Oahu, Hawaii. With Transformers: Dark of the Moon’s Chicago, Cowboys and Aliens’ Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, NM, Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ San Francisco Cable Cars, and Super 8’s Weirton, West Virginia as the runner-ups.
These are all great locations but we thought that the U.S.-only restriction on the survey forced out a few movies which should have qualified too.
For us, Midnight In Paris is probably the most travel-inspiring movie of summer. We would challenge anyone to watch a Woody Allen movie and not want to immediately visit the city where the film was shot, whether its Paris, Barcelona or Manhattan.
Another location that’s getting a lot of buzz is Bangkok, Thailand where The Hangover 2 was filmed last year. Though some think that the movie actually gave Bangkok a bad name, others can’t wait to see the city in person.
It also seems like a disservice to leave Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 off the list considering the Potter series has created an entire travel industry in the U.K. with dozens of tours, trips, and even a museum in the works, all paying homage to the movie’s filming locations.
