Last week the clock was turned back 40 years in Cedartown, GA for the feature film Jayne Mansfield’s Car which has spent several days filming on Main St.
The movie, which is set in 1969, stars Kevin Bacon, Billy Bob Thornton, and Robert Duvall, all of whom have been spotted around town. Onlookers traveled from miles to watch the stars film in this usually sleepy small town.
On Wednesday and Thursday Bacon shot a scene on Main St (which was filling in as Morrison, Alabama) in which his character leads a group of Vietnam War protesters while hundreds of film fans watched.
The stars not only filmed around Cedartown, they were also spotted in local restaurants and shops. Robert Duvall had dinner at Johnny’s New York Style Pizza on Broad Street in nearby Rome Wednesday night and had brunch at the Harvest Moon Café the very next day.
According to Johnny’s New York Style Pizza owner Robert Blumberg, “We knew they were coming in, but didn’t say anything to anybody and when they came in everybody went, is that really him?”

All I can say is I was impressed with Thornton’s ” Hometown Boy ” Laid back attitude..he was cordial, nice as he could be, and obviously unchanged of his background. One of my most favorite film’s, most people don’t know about, ” The Gift” , when I mentioned that this was my favorite Movie, he looked at me stunned that I even knew about his ties to the movie, smiled very big , leaned over at my left ear and said in a low tone , that movie was about my Mother, I could not beleive it !! Such a Sweet guy.. he can come back here anytime and would always be welcome…
