L.A.-shot shows lead Emmy Nominations

This morning Joshua Jackson and Melissa McCarthy announced the nominations for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, for which Melissa was also nominated, in L.A.

In the two big categories, Comedy Series and Drama Series, the majority of nominated series were filmed in Los Angeles. Here’s a break down of the nominated shows and where they were filmed.

Comedy Series
The Big Bang Theory – Los Angeles
Glee – Los Angeles
Modern Family – Los Angeles
The Office – Los Angeles
Parks and Recreation – Los Angeles
30 Rock – New York

Drama Series
Boardwalk Empire – New York
Dexter – Los Angeles
Friday Night Lights – Austin, TX
Game of Thrones – Ireland
The Good Wife – New York
Mad Men – Los Angeles

Of the twelve nominated series only two, Game of Thornes and Friday Night Lights, weren’t filmed in either L.A. or NYC. This isn’t a huge surprise since they are number one and number two cities for filming in North America.

What is a little surprising is that that Vancouver, which is the third most popular city for filming, (especially for TV) isn’t represented at all in either category, especially since many feel that the filmed-Vancouver series Fringe was snubbed by the Academy.
