‘The Smurfs’ world premiere takes place tonight in NYC!

The Smurfs hit the big screen in 3D on July 29th, but first the movie’s (human) stars will walk the red carpet for the world premiere in NYC.

The premiere is is set to take place tonight, Sunday July 24, at 5 p.m., at NYC’s famed Ziegfeld Theatre.

The hybrid live-action and animated comedy follows The Smurfs after the evil wizard Gargamel chases them out of their village which forces them through a portal landing them in the middle of Central Park. They then must find their way back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

The movie’s stars, including Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria, Jonathan Winters, Kety Perry, and George Lopez are all expected at tonight’s premiere!

  1. I’ve never heard of any premiere being extremely easy to get into. You don’t get tix from the theatre, they are not the ones controlling that. The PR people are the ones that have the tix. They control the guest list and know how many have been invited and how many have RSVP’d. If they have seats left, they will distribute tix to the fans to fill up the theatre, but very often that is not until after all the guests and stars have entered the theatre. I have seen them give tix to security people to pass out, so you might want to stay near some of them.

  2. Let me offer some additional advice if you don’t get in to see the movie. The majority of actors are not comfortable watching their own movies, many have never seen any of their own flicks. After they have done the press line, posed for pics and everyone is seated in the theatre, they will very often leave the theatre right before the film begins. Some theatres have a lounge or VIP area where they will wait until the film is over, but sometimes they shoot out and go to a nearby restaurant or lounge and then come back before the end of the film so they can exit with everyone else. I’ve seen it happen myself more than once, so you might want to stick around for a bit after they’ve all gone in. If someone is there with their kids, I’m sure they’ll stay, but others may leave. It’s always worth waiting a little longer to see.

  3. had a good time waiting outside and seeing the stars go into the theatre. i didnt see anyone handing out extra tix, did anyone get in? the red carpet was under tents, but you could see most of the stars arrive. most of them just waved and went inside. Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, and Katy Perry were the only ones to sign autographs and take pictures.

I also got a few nice pics of Jayma too but didnt ger autograph, She jumped over our area.

  5. it was super easy to get in. it being a kids movie and by columbia tristar is why i said it was extremely easy. even 15 crashers who arent usually there got in. once inside they gave away mcds happymeals, which had 4 piece chicken nuggets, bag of sliced apple, a soft smoothie, and a smurf toy in the happy meal box. when the movie was done giftbags were waiting outside including a box of smurf cereals, a small box of smurf animal crackers, a very small bottle of a drink wrapped with smurf wrapping and a smurf toy, the toy was packaged better than the happy meal toy.
