‘The Walking Dead’ season 2 debuts on October 16; new trailer released at Comic-Con

At yesterday’s The Walking Dead Comic-Con panel, fans got a first look at the trailer for the show’s second season (which you can check out above).

The panel included Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Jeffrey DeMunn, Frank Darabont (creator), Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman, and Greg Nicotero.

Here are a few of the highlights:

Greg Nicoero mentioned that they made a point to stay true to the original artwork. “We were really determined to follow the spirit of the artwork.” He even mentioned the “Zombie School” in Atlanta where the extras learn to become zombies!

As the cast came out on stage, they talked about their individual roles on the series. Jeffrey DeMunn said his character, Dale, is “terribly nearsighted, he doesn’t see the trouble he is in.”

Steven Yeun gave some interesting insight into what it’s like to shoot in Georgia, apparently ticks are a problem. He said before they shoot they all do tick checks, then when they get home they check again. Norman Reedus added that he loves Georgia, exclaiming, “I may never leave!”

Though the panel didn’t give away too many spoilers for the upcoming season, Darabont did confirm the second season will pick up right where things left off at the end of Season 1.

During the Q & A, Greg Nicotero also explained that the stuff the extras who play zombies have to put in their mouths to black out the pink is disgusting. He added that the zombies were all great actors!

If you’re still at Comic-Con and can’t get enough of The Walking Dead, stop by The Walking Dead booth (#3721), and take photos of themselves within a recreation of the ‘Merle’ handcuff scene from season one. Walking Dead zombie paraphernalia can also be found at Neca’s booth (#3145), Abrams Publishing (Booth #1216) is featuring The Walking Dead Chronicles, a companion book to the series, and Rubies costumes (Booth #3649) has Walking Dead costumes for sale.

The Walking Dead season two will premiere on AMC Sunday, October 16th at 9PM EST during the networks annual marathon of thriller and horror films, Fearfest, which runs through Monday, October 31st.
