I’m not really a comic fangirl. I cover a lot of comic book movies for OLV but really have to do my homework to figure out who’s who. As a matter of fact, as The Avengers continues filming in Cleveland it’s blowing my mind trying to figure out how Captain America and Thor can fight together- aren’t they from two totally different eras?
Anyway don’t get me wrong, I think the costumes and the fight scenes are cool and I get excited by the hardcore fans, but it still wasn’t the comic book movies that brought me to Comic-Con this year, it was the celebs who have previously starred in my favorite TV shows.
I might not know everything about comic book movies, but I do know everything about teen dramas! Gossip Girl, 90210 (the original & the current one), Dawson’s Creek, even The Secret Life Of The America Teenager, if it’s got a cast of teens and some high school drama, I’m probably watching.
So when I heard that Peter Gallagher and Adam Brody (Sandy and Seth Cohen of The O.C.) were going to be at Comic-Con, I made a beeline for the press junkets they were doing for their new projects (Covert Affairs and MTV’s upcoming animated series Good Vibes). They were both as cool as I imagined they would be and luckily I kept my cool even though I was dying to geek out!
Later I found out that Ben McKenzie (who played The Cohen’s adopted son Ryan Atwood on The O.C.) was also doing a few interviews at Comic-Con to promote Batman: Year One and somehow I missed it, but luckily Collider.com posted this interview with Ben a couple of weeks ago.
In the interview they briefly discuss Southland, Ben’s current series on TNT, and the fact that it shoots in some rough neighborhoods in L.A. But fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) for Ben, he can find fans of The O.C. everywhere.
One of the guys, this really, really hard dude, wearing a wife-beater, tats all over him, comes up to me and says, “I gotta tell you, I’m a big fan. I love your shit.” I was like, “Thank you. I don’t know what you’re talking about, but thank you.” And he’s like, “The O.C., man. That was a badass show. We used to watch that shit in the joint. Thursday nights, all up and down the cell block it was like (singing) ‘California, California…’” So, you know, The O.C. was bringing people together. There were no people getting shanked on Thursdays from eight to nine or whenever our show was.
You can check out a couple videos of Peter and Adam below too! And remember, when it comes to Comic-Con, you definitely don’t have to be a comic geek to find something you love!
