On July 22, the cast of Fight Night came together for a press conference at San Diego Comic-Con where they discussed the movie, the vampire genre, and how the new movie compares to the original 1985 film.
In Fright Night, Colin Farrell stars as the sexy vampire next door who is set on sucking the blood out of Charley Brewster’s (Anton Yelchin) loved ones, putting the two at war.
Farrell and Yelchin as well as Imogen Poots (who plays Charley’s girlfriend, Amy), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (who plays his friend, “Evil” Ed), director Craig Gillespie, writer Marti Noxon, and Chris Sarandon and Jerry Dandridge from Tom Holland’s original film, all attended the conference at the Hilton Bayfront to tout the new film to the press.
Highlights from the press conference included Farrell waxing philosophical about who would win in a fight, his vampire Jerry or Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen to which he replied:
It would depend what they were fighting for, if they were fighting for love or meat. If they were fighting for the love of a woman, I’m afraid Cullen would have me.
Sarandon briefly talked about Farrell’s performance compared to his own saying that he loved the use of smell in the new movie because it was both “wonderfully sexual and creepy.”
Yelchin talked about the stunts in the movie and said that he did little physical preparation but “there was a lot of physicality to it which is fun.” He added that he was a huge fan of the original as well.
Mintz-Plasse said that he thought Colin did an incredible job “bringing back the original one vampire who’s kinda sexy, he’s kinda charming, but he’s just pure evil.”
These days Yelchin is back in New Mexico, where Fright Night was filmed earlier this year, shooting his next project, Odd Thomas. And Farrell is in Toronto wrapping up Total Recall, but yesterday he did have a break from that film to promote Fright Night in NYC where he taped an appearance for The Late Show with David Letterman which will air Thursday.
