Disney Shuts Down ‘The Lone Ranger’

Just two days after the first Open Casting Call for The Lone Ranger was announced in New Mexico, THR is reporting Disney has shut the movie down.

As we’ve mentioned, sets are also being built in New Mexico, but that construction is expected to be halted as the film has been shelved indefinitely.

Sources say, ” the abrupt move to kill a project that was set to begin shooting in the fall comes amid clashes with producer Jerry Bruckheimer over the budget for the tentpole, which was scheduled to be released in December 2012.”

The move will undoubtedly be a blow to the New Mexico film industry considering it would have brought millions into the state and employed dozens of local crew members for the duration of the shoot.

What do you think of Disney scrapping the project? Were you looking forward to seeing it?

  1. Same here….it’s a blast to work in bg on films. I had all the qualifications they were asking for. Maybe it’s just temporary!
