The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off with the U2 doc ‘From The Sky Down’

The Toronto International Film Festival kicked off Thursday with the premiere of Davis Guggenheim’s U2 documentary “From the Sky Down” which follows the making of the band’s 1991 album “Achtung Baby”.

During a press conference for the movie, the band’s guitarist The Edge, expressed how much he disliked talking about himself for the movie.
“It’s always excruciating to talk about yourself,” he said. “And to see yourself talking about yourself, that’s usually worse. But I thought that they did an incredible job with what could have been the subject matter that might have been for fans only. I think he made it something that was accessible for film lovers, and I was certainly happy with how it worked out.”

“I rather like talking about myself,” Bono added. Which caused The Edge to quip, “Singer.”

The documentary specifically explores how the band dismantled what they had become in favor of something different, something new. “Taking risks, for us, always seems to be a fruitful thing,” The Edge explained. “And that’s the way we operate generally anyway. But it was never more evident than on this particular project; that playing it safe is the scariest thing we could ever consider. And it seems, at least for us, the riskier the better.”

Before leaving Toronto, Bono made the rounds at a few parties, including the party for A Dangerous Method at Greg Goose Soho House and the Vanity Fair, which were both also attended by George Clooney.

Last night Bono was back in New York for the Edun Fashion Week party at the Red Rooster. Edun is his clothing line with his wife Ali Hewson, who escorted Bono to the Lenox Lounge where he gave an impromptu performance of Cole Porter’s Night and Day.
