Earlier this week we reported that Iron Man 3 may be shot in Wilmington, NC next year, and now the Detroit Free Press has confirmed it.
Yesterday, the paper published an article explaining that Marvel chose to film the movie in North Carolina instead of Michigan because North Carolina could guarantee $20 million in incentives.
The Hollywood studio had sought between $20 million to $30 million in incentives to film in Michigan, but the Michigan Film Office initially offered just $13 million, causing Marvel to launch talks with other states, said Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, R-Monroe.
The Michigan Film Office upped its offer to $20 million, matching North Carolina, according to Richardville, who tried to attract the movie to the state. But he said Marvel chose to film in North Carolina because it guaranteed the money whereas Michigan’s deal was contingent on future legislative approval. Marvel did not return several requests seeking comment.
Filming is set to begin in June at Screen Gems studios, Wilmington.
Governor Snyder, we’re so proud of you. Can you chase any more jobs away?

Michigan needs all the jobs it can get. The last time i checked 100% of nothing is still nothing! Likewise 0% of something is still 0%. Michigan needs these jobs, so Michigan needs to be giving these big budget films the incentives the ask for to bring the production process to our studios.
