In reviewing 2011, we realize how lucky we were to attend so many amazing events, from SXSW to San Diego Comic-Con to the Woodstock Film Festival, and so many others in between. Included in our travels was a weekend at New York Comic Con back in September, which was fun, but not as much fun as we remember it being.
NYCC 2011 was crowded, very crowded, more crowded that SDCC seemed to be, and hot…and kinda smelly too. We ditched the panels we had planed due to the overwhelming crowds and killed a lot of time in the autograph area where it was (slightly) less packed.
But, with that said, we still got to scope out some cool costumes and met a few cool people, one of whom was Felicia Day who we had eyed doing a marathon autograph signing, with a smile on her face the entire time.
Felicia has become a Geek Goddess thanks to her web series about online gaming, The Guild, her star turn in Eureka, and her gig as the Interactive keynote speaker at SXSW.
In a recent interview about her latest project, Dragon Age: Redemption, Felicia said, “I believe you are never past the point of creating opportunities for yourself. Right now, people are aware of me, and writing parts for me, like on Eureka, which is an absolute dream come true. But who knows? In two years, everyone could have forgotten about me. Moved on. I have little control over that. This is a very fickle business, especially for women. At the end of the day, I know if I continue to make my own opportunities, then I’ll be fulfilled. I don’t need millions of dollars. I need to know that what I’m doing with my life is expressing who I am, and maybe making people happy. This is all we get. Make the most of it.”
This is why we also now worship Felicia Day, she’s super cool, super sweet, and definitely has the right attitude.
Below are a few photos from our time at NYCC. Were there too? What did you think? Will be attending again next year?
