Last weekend we attended New York Comic Con and our only real regret is not sticking around for Saturday’s The Walking Dead panel. We saw SDCC’s TWD panel back in July and didn’t think it would be worth the wait to see it all again, but it looks like we may have been wrong.
On the panel were Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, show producer Gale Anne Hurd, makeup artist Greg Nicotero, and cast members Jon Bernthal (Shane), Laurie Holden (Andrea), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Chandler Riggs (Carl), Norman Reedus (Daryl) and new cast member Lauren Cohan (Maggie).
It would have been fun to see Chandler Riggs address the comic con crowd. During the panel he said he loves playing Carl, because he “gets to be two different characters.” In season 1 he was the scared kid, but in this season he gets darker, and begins lying, stealing, and adapting to this new world. He also said Riggs said he used to have to imagine his dog dying to cry in scenes but now he can cry on command and about staying grounded he joked, “I like it when I’m normal…and my friends are normal…I get that I’m the coolest kid around, though.” (He sounds too cute!)
Holden said she loves that Andrea gets feisty and won’t be a victim this season and will start watching the alpha male characters and will try to learn skills from them (which we’ve already seen a bit of in the first two episodes).
Cohan slipped and let out a spoiler when she mentioned Maggie’s upcoming romance with Glenn. She said Maggie forces Glenn to look at life from a new perspective now that he has something more to hold onto.
You can watch the entire panel above and, if you’re in the Atlanta area, you still have a chance to be a zombie this season. Extras Casting Atlanta is looking for men 50+ with acting experience and athletic build for a possible zombie role.
