As upstate New Yorkers we noticed early on what an important role Syracuse, NY plays in the new CBS series Unforgettable.
The series, which is filmed in New York City, revolves around Carrie Wells (played by Poppy Montgomery) and her ex Al Burns (played by Dylan Walsh), who once worked in the Syracuse Police Department but are now NYPD detectives, though that doesn’t stop them from making constant references to the good ‘ol days in ‘Cuse.
The hook of the series is that Carrie is also one of the few people in the world who can remember every single detail of every day of her entire life.
Recently, CNYCentral.com spoke to the show’s Executive Producers, Ed Redlich and John Bellucci, about the show’s Syracuse connection. Surprisingly, they said they have no personal connection to upstate New York but did always wonder about it as kids growing up in New York City.
“We’ve always sort of romanticized Upstate New York and Syracuse just seemed like a good fit for the show,” Redlich and Belluci said. “We try to say Syracuse at least once every seven minutes on the show.”
They also said they do a lot of research about the Syracuse area while writing each episode to make sure each scenario is plausible. “We look at the terrain a lot, we love Google Earth,” the producers said.
But, most interestingly, they also said they remain open to the idea of filming a few shots on location in Syracuse one day.
“As it happens we’ve set scenes in Syracuse and would love to give it that authenticity and come up with a camera and Poppy and Dylan, it would be fantastic,” they added.
