‘Lincoln’ filming locations in Petersburg, VA on Dec. 17- 20

Steven Spielberg is currently filming his next movie, Lincoln, in Richmond, VA but it’s recently been announced he’ll be moving the production to nearby Petersburg, VA for several days next month.

Executive Producer Daniel Lupi recently said plans to film in Petersburg on Dec. 15, 16, 17 and 19 are uderway. The shoot is expected to take place on River Street, Old Street and Sycamore Street. The Farmer’s Market building will be standing in for a military headquarters and the South Side Depot will be standing in for a hospital. The surrounding streets, with their historic buildings, will be standing in for a period street.

Colleen Gibbons, location manager for the movie, explained that the city of Petersburg was Spielberg’s choices for filming. “We looked at filming at Battersea, but we wanted to contain ourselves to a more compact area,” Gibbons said.

In order to give the area a more authentic period feeling, some pavement in the town will be covered by mulch and more modern storefronts will likely be modified.

Lincoln stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, and Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln.
