It’s hard to believe that filming on Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated monsters vs. robots movie, Pacific Rim, has been filming for a month already.
Del Toro recently discussed the project and the unique world he is creating, saying, “We are working with actors that I absolutely adore. Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman. It’s really, it’s a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters. We’re trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc.”
A huge project like Pacific Rim needs a huge space to work with, which is why the movie is currently using 5 out 7 soundstages at the massive Pinewood Toronto Studios. Del Toro has chosen not to use a second unit on the movie which means the director is constantly shuttling between soundstages at Pinewood.
According to the Toronto Film Office the movie, which is using the working title Still Seas, will continue filming at Pinewood through April 10, 2012.
Along with Pacific Rim, Resident Evil: Retribution is also filming in Toronto through Dec. 23. For the complete list of projects filming in Toronto this month, check out the Project List.
Pacific Rim is scheduled to hit theaters on May 10, 2013.
