Before returning to New York to promote We Bought A Zoo, Matt Damon spent a few days in Mexico City filming the few final scenes for his upcoming Sci-Fi flick, Elysium (better known as the movie Matt had to shave his head for), which wrapped principal photography in Vancouver a few weeks earlier.
The movie’s plot has been kept closely under wraps but is said to be set on another planet and also stars Jodie Foster and Diego Luna.
According to The Daily Mail, Matt caused some controversy when he attended a bull fight during a break on the Mexico shoot. The Bullfighting event, which took place at La Monumental bullring stadium last month, is described by PETA as, an “inaccurate term for events in which there is very little competition between a nimble, sword-wielding matador (Spanish for ‘killer’) and a confused, maimed, psychologically tormented, and physically debilitated animal.”
Matt was contacted by PETA after the incident and told them, “he went to the bullfight believing that bullfights should be stopped but felt that he should see the cruelty for himself while he was in Mexico,” a PETA spokesperson said.
When Matt returned to the Mexico set of Elysium he was spotted wearing some kind of mechanical vest over a blood-stained t-shirt and jeans. Whatever was happening in the scene, it looked like his character was having a pretty bad day.
Elysium is expected to hit theater on March 1, 2013.
