Peter Jackson shares the experience of filming ‘The Hobbit’ on location in New Zealand with fans

Peter Jackson has created a new behind-the-scenes video describing the logistics of filming The Hobbit on location in New Zealand.

In the video, Jackson admits he is happy to get out of the studio and begin filming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on location.

“We’ve been traveling pretty much the length and breadth of New Zealand shooting locations for The Hobbit…It’s been great to get outside and it’s been great to get that texture of Middle- earth into the movie after many, many weeks of shooting in the studio.”

Elijah Wood, who is reprising his role of Frodo from The Lord of the Rings, is also featured in the video where he reflects on his time in New Zealand over the years.

“This is actually the first time I’m stepping foot back into Hobbiton,” Wood said. “So much time was spent here, shooting scenes with many characters. I keep referencing the fact that I turned 19 when I came to Hobbiton for the first time. That was 11 years ago – I’m 30 now.”

The Hobbit, which follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug, will hit theaters on Dec. 14, 2012.
