Lots of sites are counting down their most anticipated films of 2012- the ones that will be hitting the theaters- but around here we tend to think about what’s going into production, not so much about what’s opening in theaters.
So, it was a no-brainer when we started thinking about what movie we are most interested in seeing filming in 2012 – it has to be Iron Man 3.
Filming for the movie will primarily take place between May 21 and September 7, in Wilmington, NC where they will be based at Screen Gems Studio.
It will be the biggest production to ever shoot in North Carolina and it is sure to be one of the most anticipated movies to hit theaters in 2013.
Getting the movie made in North Carolina was no small task though. The North Carolina Film Office met with Disney and Marvel several times beginning in 2010 to discuss the shoot. About one of their meetings, Film Office director Aaron Syrett said, “There were about 10 to 12 Marvel and Disney executives in the meeting. We spoke about specific [future] projects, North Carolina’s infrastructure (crew, equipment, stages), incentives and locations. At the time, in Hollywood it was referred to as ‘Machine Man.’ ”
The meetings paid off and pre-production on the film is expected to begin next month. Stay tuned for all the latest about the shoot and, if you have any scoop about the movie, be sure to let us know at olv@onlocationvacations.com!
